My Creative Process
Something I have always struggled with is being "real." While everyone else was gaining valuable experiences, having relationships, and doing things in general, I was only focused on school (for the most part). I never knew how to write about what I wanted because I felt like I had never experienced anything. Once I realized that I didn't need to write about anything specific, it all changed.
Rather than focusing on a topic, I'll write down whatever comes to my mind. I have well over 500 notes in my "just words" folder, because I literally write down anything that I think could possibly make a song... which means there's some pretty bad ones in there. I'm not focused on what is good and what's not, I'm just writing what I think in that moment. Because of this, my songs can get very specific and super relatable.
Sometimes I'll have an awful experience with one person and write 2o songs about it, because that's just what's on my mind. Other times I'll start a song and not finish it until a year later, when I'm finally in the mood again. Whatever comes first, lyrics or melody or chords, I love messing around and trying out different words and notes. I hope people can see the influence of my day-to-day life in my songs.
